So Chapter Four.
We're giving you loads to read tonight! I'm happy with the way this turned out and I'm so happy with everything that is coming out with this story!
So without further ado...Chapter Four.

Chapter 4: Endless Hallways

“I look up to him too just like everyone else, but I mean he was no different than the rest of us in all honesty.” Ryan was being the good friend that he is and patiently listening, but I thought I’d spare him from the usual babble of my ranting.

I stopped for a moment to glance up at the ceiling before we left the great hall. I have a tendency to take it for granted, even though it’s one of my favorite things about Hogwarts. It was a crystal clear night outside, so it was reflecting onto us with such splendor that it almost made me fall backwards as I kept leaning to acquire more of the picture. Ryan was yelling at the first years to follow him, just like the other prefects were doing. I had had the fortunate pleasure of not being picked as a prefect, something that, even though it had its perks was not something that I wanted to be burdened with especially in such a pivotal year.

“You know we sit right behind you, if you’d like you are more than welcome to come over and eat with us. It’s not like we’re going to kick you off our bench if you show up.” He had stopped yelling and was giving me that, ‘you silly little girl’ face that he gives me sometimes.

“I know I just wouldn’t want to start a riot you know. I’m not very friendly with most of the Hufflepuffs so I wouldn’t want to step on anyone’s toes by showing up one evening.”

“Who cares? We love you and Jon would tell them to shove off.” I was smiling from ear to ear. Ryan could always manage to make me, and everyone else for that matter, feel like a princess or something very close.

“What was it like?” Ryan was currently leaning against the wall in what could only be described as something completely Ryan Ross. Legs crossed delicately at the ankles, arms draped along his oh so slender hip bones, hair tousled around that made him look over sexed all the while keeping his cool while patiently waiting for all the first years to gather so he could escort them to the Hufflepuff Common Room.

“What the train ride?” He nodded. “It was fine, I suppose, I had never formally meet Cydney, Arabella, or Travis before so that was rather interesting to say the least.” There was an awkward pause, glances were exchanged, and then I continued. “I won’t lie; it was not the same without you guys. I was just glad to see the look of disgust on Brendon’s face as each of the girls tried to kiss him goodbye. But most importantly I was pleased to see you all emerging from the massive amount of curls as you were stepping onto the platform all in one piece.” I stepped forward and embraced Ryan in a very overdue hug. He had to be the best hugger I knew, and it was always comforting to know that he would always be there for me. Even though I had had the privilege of seeing Becky Lou over the summer, I had not however been able to visit with Ryan. Apart from Becky, Ryan was my dearest friend. So it was always devastating when I did not get to see him for extended periods of time.

The embrace lasted longer than expected, so I was able to relish in the sweet aroma of roses and pine. I knew the smell would soon fade since it was the smell of his mother’s home, but it was pleasant while it lasted.

“Are Jon and Spencer not joining us? The first years have seemed to have managed to make it here before those two.” They were always running late, how they ever managed to make it through school without getting detentions for it I will never know.

“They won’t be joining us. They’ve had to make a speedy retreat back to the common room if you catch my drift. Jon put a little something in his pumpkin juice this evening at dinner and Spencer somehow convinced him to share it. But you didn’t hear that from me,” He winked.

“I love those two to bits.” We both shared a laugh as Ryan began to instruct the first years. As we were walking up the stairs to the Hufflepuff Common Room which was conveniently located on the same floor as mine, I began to see people I knew and casually waved at them in acknowledgment. I caught a glimpse of Becky on the other side of the stairwell, she was walking with William but before I could say hello our staircase moved.

The first years started to scream and I could feel Ryan’s body language stiffen next to me, “Do not be alarmed children, the stairs move constantly,” one poor little boy in the front of the group look terrified.

“You alright little man,” poor thing look shaken up pretty bad. “Nothing to worry about happens all the time really, it’s the invisible ones you’ve got to worry about. Those are the ones that will get you every time if you aren’t paying attention. Just stick with me and I’ll get you there in one piece okay.” He was looking a little better than before and gave me a rather weak but promising smile.

We came to a halt and continued our way up. “You were great back there by the way.” Ryan tilted his head back to look back at the boy.

“Oh it was nothing really. I just remember my first time on the stairs. Hell, I still get scared on the stairs sometimes.” Ryan smiled as we got off on our floor. “So…what are we going to do?” We were almost to the Hufflepuff Common Room which led to the dormitories and I just wanted to make sure that I wasn’t expected to go to my room just yet.

“What do you mean? I could think of a lot of things we could do.” I poked him in the ribs. I knew he was only joking but it was always fun to play with Ryan.

“Not in front of the children! Besides I just wanted to talk to you.”

“Oh well then in that case just wait over in our spot and I’ll come as soon as I can.”

“You promise? I do so hate being stood up.” I was taking it a little too far and I was starting to get a little too fluffy for my taste.

“I wouldn’t stand you up for the world.” He pinched my chin and said the password.

As I went off to wait for him, I couldn’t help but think of Becky. Becky had been a little distant lately, but we’ve all been so busy. With all the rumors that were going around no one really felt safe anymore. Or at least no one I talked to ever really felt safe anymore. They felt betrayed by the Ministry; they had been feed so lies over the years, that they only found anger in the false sense of security the ministry had tried to provide. But then these were the people who really knew what was going on. These were the people that my parents were friends with. This was the reason why my mother would never move up in her job. Contrary to all of the other things she tried to convince me of. I knew that the Daily Prophet did not want anyone working for them that thought any different than they did and we all knew that my mother was a free thinker.

I waited for what seemed an eternity, but in all honesty was only about a half an hour. I was tired from the train ride here and all the running I had to do to make it to the train on time. I never seemed to make it early to the train. When Ryan finally came into view he had switched from his uniform and into his Pajamas, which consisted of a tight fitting t-shirt and some rather low riding flannel pants.

He had a look of pure mischief on his face as he was walking over to me. Ryan knew he was hot and he loved to play it up by wearing such outfits as he had on right now, but who could blame him? If I had hipbones and a figure like he did I’d saunter around in such get ups too.

“Miss me?”

“Of course I missed you.” Which was true, I always missed Ryan when he was gone.

“Good.” He seemed to get some form of satisfaction from my response.

“Did you get all of your lovely, little first years tucked away in bed yet?”

“No, besides do you really think they’ll sleep tonight? I know I didn’t my first night at Hogwarts.”

“They better sleep tonight if they know what’s good for them. I slept like a log my first night here. Actually, that was one of the best nights sleep I’ve ever had!”

“Hmm, we all respond differently to atmospheres that are new to us. So tell me, how have you been?” He came over and sat down next to me. I was sitting in a window sill about half way between the Gryffindor and Hufflepuff Common Rooms. This window was not like most of the windows in Hogwarts, it had a relatively nice size window pane so that we could both sit in it. This was our usual place; so if one of us needed to talk we always knew exactly where to go. Probably the main reason we picked this place was because we could sit here and watch the moon rise. That and we were in a corner so we could see anyone coming in case we needed to make a run for it.

“I’ve been alright I suppose. Rather lonely this summer since I didn’t get to see much of anyone.” I shifted my body weight around to support his better, because he had draped himself all over my lower half to where he was sort of sitting in my lap but not really.

“Yeah I know how you feel. I think everyone’s parents sort of kept them close to home this summer, well everyone but Jon’s that is. That kid has done more shit this summer than I think he’s done in his whole life. Although with everything that has been going on it has made it extremely hard for us to all get together. Brendon came over and stayed with me for a little while. It was so amazing. When he came over to stay we were able to have our bonding time, just me and him, outside of school. He’s my best friend Winnie and I swear I can never get his attention when we are here. Well I won’t say that I never get his attention because then he wouldn’t really be my best friend now would he? But it is always so hard sometimes because he’s always trying to be someone he’s not. That’s one thing I love about you, you don’t pussyfoot around and try to be someone you else. I missed you so much, love you have no idea.”

“I missed you too and I totally understand about Brendon though. Becky was a little distant this summer but I hope things get better as the term gets going. I would have loved to have been there with you guys. I could have played the tambourine and danced around with scarves tied to my hips like a gypsy. That is, I’m assuming you guys wrote some stuff while you were together? ”

Ryan let out a giggle, “Yeah we wrote some stuff, nothing special though. We’ve challenged each other to write some lyrics and chords before Halloween but we’ll see how that turns out.”

“What do you mean nothing special? Ryan you are a lyrical mastermind! I’m shit when it comes to writing, and quite frankly if I had to pick someone to write a song for me it would totally be you!”

He blushed, which meant that my compliment had done its job. I love Ryan and I wish he wasn’t so insecure sometimes. I wish he could see who I see, the charismatic you boy who always is looking to put a smile on everyone’s face but his own.

“Can we move to the floor; my ass is killing me?”

“Sure thing, if you weren’t so skinny that wouldn’t be a problem!” My legs were numb from his bonier ones poking into mine.

“So what did Becky Lou and you do this summer?”

“Nothing really, I did get to see her a few times though. Mainly to go shopping for school and new clothes but that was about it. I thought you guys had all died or something, to be honest. I ran into William when I was in Diagon Alley, buying books.”

“So are you still stuck on him?” Ryan looked at me rather oddly. I had always assumed Ryan had feelings for Becky since he always seemed to inquire about her, but today he seemed slightly off. Not that I minded, any form of male attention was nice since it didn’t come my way to often. Still it was a little unnerving.

“Only a little,” big fat liar! “Besides how could I still have a crush on someone for such a long time and not act on it, huh?”

His body language seemed too loosen up a bit after I said that. “You’re right, but still. If he only knew that you had liked him, I don’t see how he could have resisted you.”

We were sitting side by side underneath our window. I could feel the cold from the stone floor starting to seep in through my robes. I gave a shiver and Ryan snuggled over to me placing his head on my shoulder.

“I feel uneasy about this year Winnie.”

“What do you mean?” I went and moved to place my arm around his shoulder so he could have something better to rest on that my pathetic excuse for a shoulder.

“I’m just nervous about the start of term that’s all. What with my prefect duties and everything that my parents are expecting from me, how am I ever going to manage?” I always hated to see Ryan in his moments of weakness.

“One day at a time love, one day at a time.” I hugged him to me and he let out a soft thanks. “I mean what…with a new headmaster like Lavery I mean we’ve got a sort of new beginning.”

Lavery was your typical Headmaster material. He had taught at Beauxbatons for a while and had moved to London looking for a new position with the ministry. Oh and when I say he taught there for a while; I mean he taught there for almost thirty years. He wasn’t fond on playing favorites with any of the houses and it was amazing to actually have someone that didn’t praise Harry for everything he did. Lavery had been a favorite pick for most of the Slytherin families because of this. They thought with getting an unbiased headmaster who had not gone to Hogwarts that it would be a positive thing in their favor. Although with their attempts to “coerce” the new headmaster into picking favorites, it had only succeeded in alienating Lavery. So with their failed attempts, they realized that having Lavery was no better than having another Dumbledore.

We had been talking for ages, which is what usually happens when we get together, we’re rather like old women that sense. Since we had moved to the floor Ryan kept drifting in and out of sleep, but there was nothing I could do to make him stop. Every time I went to get up, he wouldn’t let me, he’d stop me in one way or another, usually throwing himself around my waist. So I would sit there stroking his hair, all while talking to him about whatever came to mind: school, life, how much of an ass Draco was and so on. But as time kept slipping by I too kept getting more and more tired.

“Ryan…” No answer. “Ryan!”

“Ugh. What I’m awake.”

“Not only are you not awake, but you won’t be awake tomorrow. Plus you’re drooling on me.” Ryan had his head resting on my thigh and as he went to get up it felt lonely without him there. He looked as if he had been drugged, but Ryan was usually at his cutest when he was tired.

“What time is it? Do you need me to walk you to your dorm?”

“It’s something like 2:48, and I think I can manage. Can you make it?” Once I said this he looked rather frantic.

“You’ve got to be kidding me? You can’t walk around the grounds this late at night without me with you. I can get you out of trouble since I’m a prefect; I can say you were sleep walking or something just in case we get caught.”

Whatever, I didn’t care either way. I got up and he led me off into the direction of the Gryffindor Common Room. As we started off on our mini-quest he had wrapped his arm around my waist and was hugging me close to him. I felt I was being used as a make shift walking stick, but he was warm and I was cold from the floor. We seemed to have made it to the entrance faster than usual, which made me a little sad, but I knew I’d see him soon enough.

“You know the password?”

“Of course I know the password. I got it from Ron while we were at dinner.”

“Good.” Our conversation ended and we walked silently over to the Fat Lady’s portrait.

“Now listen. You’re eating breakfast with us tomorrow so I can check out your schedule alright?” I hope I had some classes with him. I’m pretty sure that I had all of the same classes as William, but it would be nice to have Ryan in a few of them as well.

“Sounds like a plan mate.” I gave him a rather warm smile, considering how tired I was before I went to turn away.

“Good night Winnie”

“Sleep tight Ry.” He leaned over and kissed me. It wasn’t the first time he’d kissed me nor would it hopefully be the last since he was such a great kisser, but none of the previous kisses had been so deep…so passionate. I kissed him back because it would have felt wrong if I had not. He pulled away and wrapped his arms around me.

“I’m glad to have you back.”

BTW; I am changing Lizz's name & visual. Is that okay? I know we'll have to make a few adjustments, but I am sick of the name, & as cute as ms. mohin is, I think I want Hayley to be the visual for my character. Now I just have to think up a good name. Here's a few names I like; can you help me choose?

- Cydney aka "Cyd" (pronounced SID) Chandler
- Miley Chandler
- Loralai Chandler
- Hayley (lol) Chandler

That's cool. I don't mind. Yeah, Rylee doesn't float with me anymore but I wasn't sure on how I felt about changing it.

Hmmmm...I like Cydney & Miley. I'm leaning more toward Cydney though. Whatever you choose I'm sure will be great!
